CMHA Annual report 1
Charlottetown Minor Hockey
Annual General Meeting
June 28, 2010
Presidents report
This year saw another successful year for Charlottetown Minor Hockey. Significant emphasis was this year given to coach development. There was a speaker series with a number of relevant speakers and a broad range of topics that was well received.
Also there was a new website for CMHA by goal-line and this also was well received anda very good source of information for individual teams as well as for teams individually. On the whole however the website was probably under-utilized by the individual teamsbut its’ use will only increase over time.
Further this year saw the purchase and implementation of the 50/50 machine. This was a good source of revenue for the 2009/2010 season and will continue to be so as we move forward. We would welcome suggestions as to how we could see more teams having access to this technology and helping offset team fees.
Registrar’s report
This year saw the total registration numbers go up to 462 up about 30 since the prior year. The initiation program of $100 fee for first time registering players led to a 20 player increase in the critical early age groups. Girls numbers generally were poor until PeeWee and suggestions for girls only teams at the younger age groups will need to be looked at.
Numbers generally are trending down in the novice and atom ages for next year.
Treasurer’s report
This year saw CMHA finish in the black. The major revenue generators were the registration, city subsidy, team fees and this year the 50/50. The 50/50 hardware was purchased and the cost was to a large part paid off by revenue generated. The major expenditure this year was the ice time but the loss of revenue from ice time paid for and not utilized was minimized. Ice for the CARI will be going up next year and it would be reasonable to assume the rest will soon follow suit.
Divisional Report
Initiation- Keith
Keith reported a good year for the 54 kids. They were involved in 2 tournaments and the second year players had another tournament in Crapaud. All the kids had fun and got lots of ice. By way of critique in fact it was mentioned that perhaps the 3 times per week (every week) may be too much for this age group. Also there was a request for the 2 weekend mornings to be looked at for a possible change next year.
Novice - Andrew (In absentia)
Four teams at the A level and the double A level participated this year and had a good year. The double A's won the spud as well. There was again the question of having an all girls teams as a way to encourage more female participation.
Atom- Debbie
This year saw two teams at the A level and one double and one triple A team at this age group. There was lots of ice for the kids this year and there was great volunteer support at the A level in particular. There was three tournaments for the players and they had fun. By way of suggestions for next year the early AM ice time on the weekends was somewhat difficult and there was a request to bill the team fees earlier. Specific comment of the value and ease of use of the website was mentioned.
60 players involved at this level with 32 Rep and 28 A. Unfortunately there were 5 A goalies and one was moved up to Bantam. This left two teams of 10-11 skaters which at some times was a little thin. Each team had a Coach, Manager and Trainer. Adequate practice time was available but the early am time was an issue. A comment was made that the website was awesome and the Refs for this age group were very good.
PeeWee- Pierre
Bantam/ Midget
Bantam had three A teams which reflects good numbers with one team less competitive than the other two.
Midget had only two teams with a very obvious imbalance, but once the rosters are finalized and handed in to Hockey PEI the teams could not be changed. There were strategies offered to try and rectify this but the options were not taken advantage of.
