Volunteers Needed for George Trainor Holiday Classic Hockey Tournament
2018-10-30An information session is being held Thursday, November 1st, at 7:00 P.M. in the Parkdale Room at City Hall.
The 14th anniversary of the George Trainor Holiday Classic hockey tournament, scheduled to take place in Charlottetown from December 27 to 29, is in need of volunteers.
Anyone interested in giving back to Minor Hockey A level players has an opportunity to get involved in the organizing committee for the tournament. Volunteers are needed in various roles, such as hospitality and rink manager. Those who volunteer in 2018 will be able to shadow the current organizing committee with the possibility of taking a lead role in 2019.
The George Trainor Holiday Classic Hockey tournament was created in honour of former City Councillor George Trainor who passed away suddenly during his first term on Council. Mr. Trainor was former manager of the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros, member of the PEI Hockey Association, and was the third Islander and the sixth Atlantic Canadian to be honoured by Hockey Canada with the prestigious Order of Merit. His name was also placed on an Honour Roll in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The tournament in his honour is fitting, given his passion and commitment to the sport. The tournament benefits the Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association and the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association financially, but also provides an opportunity for A level players to experience a high-profile tournament.
For anyone interested in learning more about the tournament and volunteer roles available, an information session will be held on Thursday, November 1 at 7 P.M. in the Parkdale Room at City Hall (199 Queen Street). All are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.
