Atom A Team 2 Cyclones, Peewee A Cyclones, and Atom AAA Storm Win Provincial Titles
2018-03-26Three girls teams demonstrated their power in their respective Provincial Championships over the weekend.
The Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association would like to offer sincere congratulations to three female teams who won Provincial Championships. All tournaments took place March 23rd-25th.
Atom A Team 2 Capital District Cyclones
Held in Pownal, the Female Atom A Provincials hosted two Capital District teams. Team 2 began their run with a 2-0 shutout win against North River Team 2 on Friday evening. In a CMHA battle on Saturday morning, the Team 2 Cyclones were victorious by a score of 5-1. Later that day, they lost to O'Leary in a 6-2 game.
Rejeuvenated the next day for a crossover game against host Pownal Team 2, the Team 2 Atom A Cyclones played spoiler in a thrilling 3-2 final. They had booked their ticket to the final. Meanwhile, the other crossover between Pownal Team 1 and O'Leary was being played. O'Leary won 2-0.
In a rematch of the previous day's game, the tables had turned. The Atom A Capital District Cyclones Team 2 were able to pull off a victory, as they won 4-1.
Players include Addison Bulger, Rhyan Burke, Chloe Callaghan, Cohen Doucette, Cassie Doucette, Ava Down, Alexa Doyle, Bella Fitzpatrick, Molly MacDougall, Rory MacIntyre, Eve Morris, and Mia Shaw, and the team is coached by Troy Burke, Stephen MacIntye, Shannon Burke, and Jody Doucette.
Peewee A Capital District Cyclones
Also held in Pownal, the Peewee A Capital District Cyclones came into their Provincial Championship on a high. They opened their tournament with a 7-1 win against Summerside Team 1. The next day, the Cyclones played rival team Pownal to a winning score of 4-2. They capped their round robin play with a 7-2 win against Summerside Team 2.
In their crossover game, the Cyclones defeated North River in a 2-0 shutout. In the other side, Summerside Team 2 beat Tignish by the same score. The stage for the final was set.
In a rematch of their round robin matchup, the Peewee A Cyclones faced off against Summerside Team 2 with the provincial title at stake. Although a tougher battle than in the round robin, the Cyclones were successful in winning by a score of 3-1.
Players include Carly Acorn, Leah-Rae Acorn, Reegan Bolger, Kayla Gallant, Ema Gibbons, Abbigale Holmes, JD Johnson, Rory MacIntyre, Becca MacLean, Kara MacRae, Evelyn Peacock, Soleil Skinner, Katie Spears, and Kezlee Yorston. The team is coached by Maggie Connell, Lyndsey Flynn, Lee Ann DesChamps, Karen Burke, and Lindsay Arsenault.
Atom AAA Central Storm
In a third provincial tournament held in Pownal on the same weekend, the Atom AAA Central Storm team was crowned Provincial Champion.
The team's tournament opened with a 4-4 tie against the Mid-Isle Wildcats on Friday night. They proceeded to play the Western Wind the next day, winning by a score of 5-1. Later that day, the same two teams played again in a crossover matchup. The Storm won again, this time in a 7-0 shutout.
The championship final against the Mid-Isle Wild was sure to be a close game. The Atom AAA Central Storm was ultimately deemed provincial champion following a close, 2-1 win.
Players include Reese Baker, Emma Balderston, Jessica Connelly, Jessi Doyle, Petra Klimes, Mya Larkin, Miah Lawlor, Darby Lea, Olivia Lowe, Emily Lutley, Reegan MacCallum, Taryn MacInnis, Hailey MacKinnon, Ellie Mullins, and Darci Reardon. The team is coached by Billy MacCallum, Jan Klimes, Aaron Lawlor, and Sonya Balderston.
