Peewee AAA Abbies are Provincial Champions

The Peewee AAA Abbies successfully defended their provincial title over the weekend.
The Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association would like to extend huge congratulations to the Peewee AAA Charlottetown Abbies, who extended their reign as provincial champions at home this weekend.
In the first round robin game, the Abbies had a close encounter with the Pownal Red Devils, winning 3-2. The team proceeded to gain their footing, exploding for sixteen goals in their next two games, in a 10-4 win against the Summerside Capitals and a 6-1 win against the Mid-Isle Matrix. Into Sunday, the Abbies had another convincing win against Summerside, this time by a score of 10-2. On the other side, the Kings County Kings beat the Sherwood Falcons by a score of 4-1. The championship matchup was set.
At 4:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 18th, in front of an almost full crowd at the Bell Aliant Centre, the puck dropped for the championship game. Play was back and forth for most of the game, and the score was tied at three apiece with approximately five minutes remaining in the third period. True to form, the Abbies began their barrage, ultimately scoring four more goals before the game was over. The final score was 7-3.
The Peewee AAA Charlottetown Abbies have had a very successful season so far. The team won the Early Bird toward the beginning of the season and had a championship appearance at the Spud. They came into the provincials riding a high, as two weeks ago they won the Edd McNeill Memorial in Summerside, and last week they won the Joe Lamontagne in Cole Harbour.
The Peewee AAA Abbies were provincial champions last year as well. They were bronze-medal winners in the 2017 Peewee AAA Atlantics held in Conception Bay South, NL. This year, the team will head to Edmunston, NB, April 5th-8th, 2018.
Players include Brett Arsenault, Sam Casford, Ethan Clark, Ryan Harper, Alex Koughan, Jonah MacDonald, Seamus MacEachern, Finn Morris, Nathan Mossey, Brennan Murphy, Zack O'Meara, Jack Rowell, Keegan Rush-Germaine, Max Sentner, Cam Squires, Creegan Tompkins, and Wil White. The team is coached by Jeff Squires, Chris Hedefine, and Matthew Weeks.
