43rd Annual Spud Hockey Tournament Wrap-Up

2018-01-29

Congratulations to all participants. Please read the following for some housekeeping items.

We would like to extend a sincere thanks and congratulations to all volunteers and participants involved with the 43rd Annual Spud Hockey Tournament. Please read below for information regarding champions, 50/50 results, award winners, and a look ahead to next year, at the 44th Annual Spud.

Champions
This weekend was a long weekend involving much effort and teamwork, and to be able to find success in The Spud is a feat that should be held in high regard. The championship games were some of the most exciting in Spud history, including a local rivalry matchup in the midget division and triple overtime (2-on-2 hockey) in the bantam division. Especially of note was Moncton's strong showing in the tournament, reaching Peewee AAA, and Bantam AAA finals. We would also like to congratulate the host Charlottetown Abbies on winning the Novice AA division and the host Central Attack on winning the Midget AAA division.
  • Novice AA: Sherwood Falcons 3 @ Charlottetown Abbies 5
  • Atom AAA: Sackville Flyers 3 @ Bedford Blues 8
  • Peewee AAA: Moncton Hawks 5 @ Charlottetown Abbies 4
  • Bantam AAA: ACA Rangers 3 @ Moncton Hawks 2 [3OT]
  • Midget AAA: Pownal Red Devils 2 @ Central Attack 3

Internal SPUD Awards
Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Year, Philip Brown. Philip has been involved with the SPUD Tournament for a number of years, and his effort reaching out to sponsors this year was one that must be recognized.
Congratulations as well to Charlottetown Novice AA Abbies player Megan Mossey on winning the Drew Power Leadership Award. This award is based on an outstanding work ethic, striving for team goals, and inspiring teammates. It is especially of note that Mossey is the youngest player ever to win this award.
