Pee Wee AAA Abbies take Bronze at the Atlantic Championships

2016-04-12

Congratulations to the players and coaches!

The Charlottetown Pee Wee AAA Abbies recently captured an Atlantic Bronze medal at the 2016 Bell Aliant Pee Wee AAA Atlantic Championships this past weekend hosted in Charlottetown.

After going 0-2 in their first two games, the Abbies with losses to the Fredricton Express and the eventual silver medal winning East Hants Penguins, responded with a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over the Mid Isle Matrix on Friday night at the CARI Complex.

A hard fought 6-2 loss to the eventual Atlantic Champions, Saint John’s Hit Men, on Saturday morning set the stage for the Sunday morning bronze medal game between the Fredricton Express and the Abbies. Charlottetown came out strong in the medal game scoring in the first minute with a goal from Brett Arsenault followed by power play goals from Jacob Squires and Tanner Maclean. Maclean added his second goal  of the game in the second period with the Abbies leading 4-1 after two periods. The teams traded goals in the third period with Jamie Collins adding the Abbies only marker  to cap off a 5-2 victory to capture the Bronze. Fredricton chances were limited with only two power play goals and Jack Howatt stopping 28 of 30 shots in the medal game for the victory.

The CARI Complex was filled for the weekend with enthusiastic hockey fans that were treated to some of the best Peewee hockey in the region.
